Perry the Peregrine Falcon

Perry the Peregrine Falcon is a beloved symbol of school spirit at Cal State Â鶹Éç. To ensure a successful mascot appearance, please read and follow the guidelines below before submitting a request:

General Guidelines:

  1. Request Submission: All appearance requests must be submitted via our at least 14 calendar days prior to the appearance date, subject to schedule availability.
    • Types of approved requests include:
      • Campus-wide events
      • Admissions events and New Student Orientation
    • Examples of rejected requests include, but are not limited to:
      • Personal/Private appearances
      • Graduation events and ceremonies
      • Activities with a political agenda or messaging 
      • Non-university business or brand promotions
  2. Approval Process: Submitting a request does not guarantee approval. University Communications reviews all requests and confirms availability.
  3. Appearance Duration: The mascot performer determines Perry's appearance duration based on a number of factors, including audience engagement levels, mascot and audience safety and adherence to the guidelines. There is no minimum time limit. The maximum duration is up to 1 hour per session, with necessary breaks at the performer’s discretion.
  4. Private Space Requirement: The event organizer must provide a secure, private space for Perry to change and take breaks not more than 25 yards from the event space.
  5. Mascot Handler: A designated event site representative must be available from Perry’s arrival to departure to assist and guide Perry during the event in collaboration with Perry’s university handler.
  6. Appropriate Events: Perry is available for university-sponsored and community events that align with the mission and values of Cal State Â鶹Éç.
  7. Behavior & Interactions: Perry represents school pride and positivity. The mascot will not engage in political, commercial, or inappropriate activities. The performer reserves the right to limit audience contact based on perceived appropriateness and safety for all involved. This is a non-negotiable decision.
  8. Weather & Safety Considerations: Outdoor appearances may be adjusted or canceled due to extreme weather conditions and are at the discretion of the performer.

No, Perry, the Peregrine Falcon is managed solely by University Communications. Only selected and trained individuals are permitted to wear the costume.
